Lasers
Laser sights help shooters achieve better accuracy, especially when operating in close quarters, fast-response situations. Sight laser is an allignment of a laser device with the trajectory of the bullet. Different manufacturers, like Crimson Trace, Lasermax, Viridian and other approach gun laser engineering differently. Guide rod laser, laser grips, rail mounted laser are some of the most common solutions for creating an effective pistol laser, rifle laser and shotgun laser.
Lasermax laser sight that is based on a guide rod system, where lasermax guide rod replaces the factory guide rod in a pistol is probably one of the most popular tactical laser sights amongst military and law enforcement. Crimson Trace lasers or CT lasers are more known as the grip mounted lasers, where the laser is positioned near or above the grip with the laser path is projected from the rear of the pistol forward as opposed to the rod. There is less likelihood in this approach for the lens element to become dirty from the burnt powder residue.
Many shooters prefer rail mouned tactical laser sights that they are able to swap between different weapon platforms. Rail mounted lasers typically have longer battery time and often have more powerful lasers with greater range and visibility. Most green lasers are built using rail mounted solution and Veridian pistol laser is a good example of that approach. The main disadvantage of rail mounted lasers is that firearms require special holsters to accomodate them, there is also additional weight, albeit small, that slightly changes the overall weight distribution of the firearm.
Selection of green laser versus red laser has a lot to do with the operational requirements of the user. Green is a more powerful and more visible laser for operating in broad daylight with high sun exposure. These advantages are not so prominent in close quarter situations or when operating laser sights inside a building/closed range. Companies have designed lasers to fit most of the popular weapon platforms today. It is easy to find anything from Glock laser sight to shotgun and AR mountable laser grips aiming device - it's all a matter of budget.
